As a CPA, he believes it’s necessary for someone seeking tax preparation and IRS representation, to hire a firm that is professionally licensed. You absolutely must make sure, and not assume, that the company itself is professionally licensed. That’s the only way to know you are dealing with professionals operating under the ethics of the state they are licensed in. There are many non-professional “debt relief” companies that hire attorneys and CPAs. They mislead customers into thinking that they have a flawless reputation. Then when the company goes out of business, the professionals get away with their illegal behavior. When Tax Masters went out of business for their theft of money from consumers under false pretenses, the professional licensees who worked for them continued to operate (mostly under other company names), without any infractions on their license! These new companies, previously of Tax Masters, Ronnie Deutch, and J.K. Harris (the three largest IRS representation companies) continue to operate today under many names. Some are in Houston Texas and show up at the top when you search in Google for IRS tax help. Be Forewarned. We get a lot of calls from people ripped off by those companies.
Your only recourse against these debt relief companies with well-tailored websites and deep pockets is to have a licensed professional company represent you. Does the company itself have a professional law firm or CPA firm license with their state? If not, don’t hire them. It will cost you more than you realize. No private or government organization will assist you getting your money back, despite what you may believe from reading information on the internet. And if you file complaints on the web they get buried. These companies know the internet tricks, and they know how to put phony compliments on sites, and how to rank high in search want they want to, so you never see all the bad complaints.
